Hi Paul

Thanks so much for this site and all the information you provide! A couple of things that I can think off are:

Feeling the symptoms of Anxiety in public/work/socialising - I know a fear of mine is people noticing and thinking I am going crazy so my body reacts. I try to accept this and the symptoms while they are happening but really struggle to stay in the conversation without looking like an idiot. It is like half my attention is on them and the other half is on me. I find this difficult in a one on one situation.

Acceptance - I think this is a powerful tool and the more we discuss it maybe the better we get?

Thoughts - I notice that no matter how much I improve I still think about it. It is the first thing I think of when I wake up - do I feel ok? Am I going to feel ok today? What if I have a Panic Attack.

Control/letting go

Anyways thats just a few thoughts from me off the top of my head!

Thanks

Melissa

Great topic Mel! Having anxiety can really turn on the feeling that people are 'watching' us in some way. Very normal to experience when you're anxious. I will tackle this soon.

Hey Wallace, sleep is another big issue. Thank you both for the suggestions. I'll get on these as time permits.

Hi,
I would suggest a topic where people can generally ask if their symptoms (the lesser know ones, not the typical) are normal. This would help a lot of people find some peace in seeing that "that one symptom" isn't a sing of any kind of other disease or disorder.
For example, I haven't had a panic attack in over 6 years although my anxiety was really bad last year. I'm really glad that I don't have those, but at the same time seeing everyone talk about them makes me ask myself "Why aren't they an issue for me? Am I a normal anxiety sufferer?" (Sounds weird, I know :)))
Cheers, Martin

Paul, thank you also for this site. I've been listening to your podcasts for a long time now. I like the idea of being able to come in here and share with others too. So, a big thanks.

My question/suggestion - I know I have anxiety - but there's always that element of doubt that it's something "else" - how do I believe/trust myself? Why do I often listen to that niggly "what if I'm wrong?" Voice? The one that makes me doubt myself... Every time I feel anxious, I'm constantly talking to myself and trying to change my thought patterns, but there's STILL that "what if" - I want to smack it in the face!!!! I wish it were standing in front of me, so I could! Haha. Is this something that will simply change in time, the more I tackle it? Or am I stuck with always not trusting myself entirely?

Hey Bobbie, that's a great question! That "voice" is indeed anxiety, worry, and self-defense at it's worst. You lean toward "what if" because it feels safer to be prepared. I will certainly tackle this topic soon!

I agree with all these suggestions. I especially relate with Bobbie, I know if i'm anxious it's helpful to use positive self talk: "You're ok, there's isn't dangerous, you're going to be ok". But the problem with that is that I can say it, but I don't really believe it so that kind of defeats the point.

So yeah, a great topic - how to you learn to trust yourself?
